Green 9.9 cal window for Arc Flash shields

Open a live panel and the window in front of your face is what stands between you and the flash. This green polycarbonate window replaces the one in our Arc Flash Series face shields, models S31223 and S31224, and it is molded to an arc rating of 9.9 cal/cm2. It measures 8 by 15 inches at 0.060 inch thick and comes uncoated, and the light green tint keeps wire colors readable.

Replace the window when it is cracked, deeply scratched or has been through an arc event, since its rating applies to an undamaged part. You keep your existing crown and headgear and change only the window. The standard named for it is NFPA 70E. Check that 9.9 cal/cm2 covers the hazard on your job, and wear safety glasses and the rest of your arc rated kit under it.

Before you start

A face shield goes over safety glasses or goggles, never instead of them. OSHA's guide says a shield alone does not stop an impact, and a pitted or scratched window is the cue to replace it.
