A helmet with the right shade, and cover for what is around you

OSHA asks for a helmet or a hand shield in all arc welding and cutting, made of a material that insulates against heat and electricity and keeps the arc off your face, neck and ears. The filter shade comes from your process and current: Shade 8 for stick at 60 to 160 A, Shade 10 for MIG from 60 A, by the OSHA table in our shade guide.

Spatter does not stop at your helmet. A welding blanket covers the floor, the bench or a nearby machine, and the leather bib covers your chest at the bench. Wear safety glasses under the helmet for the moment you lift it to chip.

Questions

Arc welding: what people ask

Which Sellstrom shade do you need for stick welding?

At least Shade 8 at 60 to 160 A by the OSHA table, darker at higher currents. See the welding shade guide.

Do you need safety glasses under your Sellstrom welding helmet?

Wear them for the moment you lift the helmet to chip slag, when the helmet is no longer in front of your eyes.
