The vents decide what a goggle keeps out

A goggle seals around your eyes, so it covers what glasses leave open at the sides and the top. How it breathes decides what it is for. A direct-vent goggle has open holes for air and keeps out flying particles and dust. An indirect-vent goggle routes the air through covered ports, so liquid cannot run straight in: that is the chemical splash goggle. A non-vented goggle is sealed all the way round, for fine dust, mists and vapors that would get through any vent.

The Odyssey II is the Sellstrom goggle with the most versions: a chemical splash body, a Shade 5 lens for cutting, a wildland fire goggle and one made for gamma-ray sterilizing and autoclaves in clean rooms. Replacement lenses and straps fit the body you already own.

Prevent Blindness puts it in one line: if you work with chemicals, wear goggles. For heavier splash, add a face shield over them.

Questions

About Sellstrom safety goggles

Which Sellstrom goggle vents keep out a chemical splash?

Indirect vents. They route air through covered ports, so liquid cannot run straight in. Non-vented goggles close the gaps entirely, and direct-vent goggles are for dust and flying particles, not splash.

Do Sellstrom goggles fit over your glasses?

Some do. Look for an over-the-glass goggle in the name or options, and check the product data of the goggle you pick before you order.

Can you replace the lens or strap of your Odyssey II goggle?

Yes. Replacement lenses, straps and bags made for the Odyssey II body keep a goggle in service. See the Odyssey II page.
