Hard hat shield with a Shade 5 flip

One shield for grinding in the morning and brazing after lunch saves a trip back to the crib. This one rides on your hard hat through the universal slot adapter and carries two layers: a clear polycarbonate window with an anti-fog coating for chips and splash, and a spring mounted Shade 5 IR flip front for the flame. A large crown and chin guard cover the head and neck.

Keep the flip front up for grinding, chipping and chemical work, and drop it when you light the torch for oxy-acetylene cutting or brazing. Shade 5 is a torch shade and is not meant for arc welding. The adapter fits most slotted hard hats, and you keep your safety glasses on under the window. We mark the shield to ANSI Z87+ and CSA Z94.3.

Before you start

IR tinted windows, visors and lenses are for torch work: brazing, gas welding and oxygen cutting. They are not a filter for an electric arc, where the OSHA table starts at Shade 7.
