Pick the shell, then the filter that goes in it

A passive helmet holds a filter plate of one shade in a fixed or lift front, and you see through the plate only once the arc is lit. The lift front helmets add a clear window under the flip, so you can chip and grind without taking the helmet off. Our Super Tuff shells come in both forms, and the window size decides which filter plates and cover plates fit.

An auto-darkening helmet stays light until the arc strikes. Ours offer an Advantage with external controls, an Advantage+ and a Premium with internal controls. The hand shield is for short tack welds where a helmet is more than the job needs. OSHA asks for a helmet or a hand shield in all arc welding, and the shade guide says which number your process needs.

Questions

Welding helmets: what people ask

What does lift front mean on your Sellstrom welding helmet?

The filter plate sits in a front that flips up, with a clear window under it. You chip and grind with the front up and weld with it down, without taking the helmet off.

Which Sellstrom auto-darkening helmet should you pick?

Ours come as an Advantage with external controls and an Advantage+ and Premium with internal controls. Pick by where you want the controls and the size of the view.
